If you want rock hard abs, you should be doing exercises that work your entire body and not just your abdomen. Exercises that are aimed at just your abs will cause the muscles to firm up only to a point. How defined your abs become is contingent upon the amount of stomach fat you are carrying.

Performing entire body exercises are essential, since every separate movement is designed to strengthen a different body part. If you can eliminate your excess stomach fat, you will use more calories.
